Evangelists Pulpit Fall

This was designed as an "all seasons" pulpit fall for St Michael's Church. The design was inspired by various pages from some of the Celtic manuscripts. 

The  cross is canvas work using a combination of tent stitch and cushion stitch.  The four Evangelists are hand painted silk with a combination of quilting, machine embroidery, hand stitching and beading.  The wings on each symbol are raised away from the surface.

The fringe tassels are hand braided with the ends stitched into the canvas-work border along the bottom edge.  The border on the other three sides it hand-braided using the same tapestry wools as the fringe and cross.

This can usually be seen in our Church, which is open daily.
