Altar Frontal Main fabric is Harris Tweed. This frontal was made for the Church of St Moluag at Eoropie on the Isle of Lewis. It depicts St Moluag on the left, with St Ronan on the right - both Celtic saints associated with the island and the Church. The celtic knotwork "waves" give rise to the central cross. The knotwork on the cross was designed to reflect the knotwork border in the stained glass window above. The fabrics used for the appliqué are Harris Tweed stitched with gold and silver metallic threads. The centre of the cross is made with hand-made felt which was made from fleece from Hebridean and black-face sheep from the island. The Church is open throughout the summer and the frontal can be seen at any time. For more information about the church click here. The window and the altar frontal were made at the same time and I collaborated closely with the stained glass artist, Gail Steele. |
